The story
AfroRead started with a simple frustration: finding African books is hard. In January 2020, Gizuf's founders set out to change that with an eBook and audiobook app built for African literature.
Along the way the team mapped the core challenges of publishing and distributing books in Africa, and built a state-of-the-art platform that serves readers, authors and publishers at scale.
Today AfroRead is a strategic partnership with Ethio telecom. It runs as a co-branded platform on Ethio telecom's digital infrastructure, cloud hosting and payment ecosystem, and it is integrated with the telebirr Super App. Readers across Ethiopia can now discover and pay for a growing library of eBooks, audiobooks and children's educational content in a few taps. The partnership supports local authors and publishers, promotes digital literacy and helps preserve Ethiopian knowledge and culture.
Read. Listen. Cultivate the mind.
Impact
Sharing knowledge is key to overcoming many of Africa's challenges. AfroRead helps equip the next generation of leaders and informed citizens, and gives African authors a modern path to readers.
